iPhone notifications arrive even when VEP was closed for a long time

On iPhones and iPads with iOS 18.4 or later, the device itself now shows each notification from VEP, so it arrives and a tap opens its chat even when VEP has not been opened for a long time.
Why it matters
A notification that never arrives is a message you miss. Notifications from VEP now reach your iPhone like those of any other app, however long VEP has been closed, and computers and Android phones that set up VEP long ago get them as well.
- Before
- Notifications on an iPhone could arrive late or not at all after VEP had been closed for a long time, and some older browser setups on computers and Android phones got none.
- Now
- Your iPhone shows every new message from VEP by itself and opens its chat on a tap, and older browser setups on computers and Android phones get notifications.
What you get
- Shown by your iPhone: on iOS and iPadOS 18.4 or later, your iPhone or iPad shows each new message from VEP on the Lock Screen and in Notification Center, even when VEP has been closed for a long time.
- Straight to the chat: a tap on the notification opens the chat it is about, at the VEP address you added to your Home Screen, including your company's own VEP address.
- The number on the icon: the unread count on the VEP icon still changes with every notification, the same count as your chat list.
- Older iPhones keep working: on iOS 16.4 up to 18.3 notifications look and open exactly as before, and calls show their notification as before on every device.
- Computers and Android phones: browsers that set up VEP a long time ago now get notifications too, and a tap opens the chat. There is nothing to switch on.
