Chats keep working without a connection

For everyone who works with an AI employee

On your phone or tablet, a message to a colleague or a group that you write without a connection waits on the device with a clock and goes out by itself, once and in order, as soon as you are back online.

Why it matters

Phones lose the connection in lifts, on trains and in basements. You can keep answering colleagues and teams anyway and trust VEP to deliver each message once, in the order you wrote it, without watching the signal.

Now
Messages to colleagues and groups written without a connection wait on the phone with a clock and go out once, in order, when the connection returns.

What you get

  • A clock while it waits: a message you write to a colleague or a group without a connection shows at once on your side of the chat with a clock, then an arrow while it is on its way.
  • Kept on the phone: waiting messages stay in their chat, in the order you wrote them, also after you close VEP and open it again with no connection. The chat list and the top of the screen show what still waits.
  • Once and in order: when the connection returns, VEP sends them by itself, oldest first in each chat, GIFs and forwarded messages included, and a weak connection never turns one message into two.
  • One chat never holds up another: when one chat cannot take a message for a while, the messages you wrote to your other chats still go out.
  • Edit, retry or delete: change a waiting message before it goes. A message that cannot be delivered, for example in a channel where only admins write, shows a warning and Not sent in the chat list.
  • Waits for your sign-in: when your sign-in needs renewing, the messages keep waiting and the top of the chat list says how many; they go out as soon as you are signed in again.

How to use it

  1. Write as usual

Open a chat with a colleague, a group or a channel and send your message, also with no signal. It appears at once on your side with a clock.

  2. Keep working

Close VEP or switch to another app when you need to. The message stays in its chat on your phone, in the order you wrote it, and the chat list shows it with a clock.

  3. Let it go out

When your phone is back online, open VEP. Waiting messages go out by themselves, and the clock turns into the usual tick.

  4. Change or take back a message

Press and hold a message that is still waiting and choose Edit to change it or Delete to take it back; a deleted message is never sent, and one that was already on its way is removed from the chat.

  5. Handle a message that could not be sent

Tap a message with a warning and choose Retry, Copy text or Delete.

Good to know

  • On an iPhone or iPad, VEP sends waiting messages while it is open: iOS does not let apps added to the home screen send in the background.
  • A message written without a connection shows the time you wrote it until it is sent, and the time it arrived after that.
  • Photos, files and voice messages still need a connection for now.
  • On a computer and in the VEP app from the App Store, sending works as before.

Updates to this feature

  1. Improved

VEP on your home screen starts without a connection

VEP on your home screen opens with your team, workspaces and settings when there is no connection, and brings them up to date as soon as it connects.
