Unread count on the VEP icon, and a notification tap opens its chat

VEP on your iPhone home screen now shows the number of unread messages on its icon, updated with each new notification, and a tap on a chat notification takes you straight to that conversation.
Why it matters
You see at a glance whether someone is waiting for an answer without opening VEP, and a notification always leads to the conversation it is about, rather than leaving you to look for it.
- Before
- The VEP icon on your iPhone showed no number while VEP was closed, and a notification from a person could open VEP without that conversation.
- Now
- The VEP icon shows how many messages wait for you, and every chat notification opens its own conversation, even when VEP was in the background.
What you get
- A number on the icon: the VEP icon on your home screen shows how many messages wait for you, up to 99. While VEP is closed, the number changes with each new notification.
- The same count as your chats: the number counts your chats with people, groups and AI employees the way your chat list does. Muted and archived chats are left out.
- Straight to the conversation: a tap on a notification from a person opens your chat with that person, whether or not the chat uses topics.
- A way in when iOS skips the tap: if your iPhone brings VEP forward without opening the chat, a short bar names who wrote and one tap there opens it. The bar shows only on the iPhone that got the notification and leaves after 10 seconds.
- Right again when you open VEP: while VEP is open, the number follows your chats as you read them, so messages you read on another device leave the count once you open VEP.
- No number left behind: when you turn off notifications in VEP or sign out, the number leaves the icon, because no notification could update it any more.
How to use it
In VEP on your iPhone home screen with notifications turned on, on iOS 16.4 or later. While VEP is closed, the number changes with each new notification.
